Tampa Bay Day-Trips from Countryside Key
One of the understated benefits of living at Countryside Key is how many different worlds
are within a half-hour drive — barrier-island beaches, historic Greek fishing towns,
waterfront dining, and a couple of the biggest theme parks in the Southeast. A short list
of the best day-trip options from the community:
Honeymoon Island State Park (~25 min)
Three miles of natural Gulf beach, a nature trail through pine and palm hammock,
and a ferry to the even-quieter Caladesi Island. Consistently ranked among Florida's
best state parks. Bring beach chairs; there's a small entry fee per vehicle.
Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks (~20 min)
A working Greek-American fishing town with spongeboat tours, family-run tavernas
(Hellas, Mykonos, Mr. Souvlaki) and shops selling natural sponges, olive oil and
bakery goods. Good stop for a long weekend lunch with visiting guests.
Safety Harbor waterfront (~15 min)
Historic downtown with a pier, Saturday farmers market and the Safety Harbor Resort & Spa
built over natural mineral springs. A quieter alternative to Tarpon Springs for a Sunday brunch.
Clearwater Beach (~25–30 min)
White quartz sand, Pier 60 sunset celebration every evening, and dozens of restaurants
along Beach Walk. Use the Jolley Trolley or arrive early on weekends — parking fills up.
Busch Gardens / ZooTampa (~35 min)
Busch Gardens for coasters and animal encounters; ZooTampa (Lowry Park) for a more
family-friendly, walkable zoo visit. Annual passes often make sense if you have kids.
Weeki Wachee & Crystal River (~1 hr)
For a longer day, head north on US-19 to Weeki Wachee Springs (kayaking, the famous
mermaid show) or Crystal River for manatee tours in winter months.
